Singin' & Swingin' Nancy Kelly’s second recording as a leader is a long
awaited follow up to her acclaimed CD Live Jazz
Nancy is signin the kind of world class jazz reminiscent of a young Ella
Fitzgerald, and all the greats before, creating a new vibrancy and excitement
like no other.
Singin and Swingin includes distinctive interpretations Of
Stormy Weather, I
concentrate on you,Young and Foolish,At Long Last Love and other favorites
was co produced by Kelly and Jeff Tyzik, Pops conductor of the Rochester
Philharmonic Orchestra. The albums executive producer is Leonard Silver of
Amherst Records, an independent label based in Buffalo N.Y., which first
recorded Spyro Gyro and today features an artist roster that includes
Kelly,Doc Sevrinsen, and Della Reese and The Stylistics.
The twelve songs on Singin and Swingin reflect a typical set from one of her
shows.
I decided to record several different feels. Each track has a different mood
rather than all done in the same style.
The performance varies from a Bossa Nova version of That’s All to a
powerful cover of Chaka Kahns Through the Fire, and a driving treatment of
Duke Pearson’s hard bop classic Jeannine
The CD features inspired playing by saxophonist Bobby Militello,Joe Carello
Trumpeter Jeff Jarvis, vibraphonist Brian Murphy and Pianist Bobby Jones.
